| Uruguay Dove Hunting |
| Los Gauchos is proud to announce our entry into the high volume dove hunting market in Western Uruguay. This region is a big-time rich dove hunting resource, comparable only to Cordoba dove hunting. The lodge is located 3.5 hours from the Montevideo International airport by automobile, or forty minutes by air charter. It is also conveniently located 3.5 hours from Buenos Aries as well (by chartered van). Guests arriving by air can expect to hunt the afternoon of arrival, and those arriving by land will arrive just in time for cocktails and dinner—beginning their hunt the next morning. |
This location is also easily accessible from Buenos Aries, Argentina. In fact, this dove hunting lodge is equidistant from Montevideo and Buenos Aires—a 3.5 hour drive from both. This makes it easy for shooters to enjoy the great city of Buenos Aires, and hunt in Uruguay too. So, regardless of whether you are combo-hunting, or sightseeing, our dove hunting estancia is conveniently located to suit your needs. |
| When is the best time to come dove hunting with Los Gauchos? Simple. Anytime! The Golden Eared Dove does not migrate. Millions of these birds remain in the many roosts located within 10 minutes, and up to 45 minutes, in all directions of our estancia. |
Depending on the time of year, the Los Gauchos dove hunting trips in Uruguay are often combined with pigeon shooting or Tinamou (a partridge-like bird called a Perdiz) hunting. Decoyed pigeons in Uruguay are available year round, just like the doves, but the Perdiz season in Uruguay is limited: May 1st and ends on August 1st. |
| The Uruguay dove hunting season lasts year round, and these crop-destroying birds are considered a plague because of their high numbers. On Uruguay dove hunts, shooters can expect to shoot one, to 1-½ cases of shells per afternoon, or twice that for a full day of dove hunting. |
| Uruguay is located in South America, and follows traditional South American culture in many ways, but in many other respects, it might as well be a little European country tucked away in Central Europe…like Luxembourg. Wing shooting this small country is done in a grand manner, and has a very different flavor than other dove hunting destinations such as: Mexico, Bolivia, or Argentina. |
For example, when one thinks of great South American dove hunting, there is usually only one destination that comes to mind: Cordoba, Argentina. Uruguay has great dove hunting that is on par with Cordoba, but with some big differences, like the ability to break the dove hunting monotony with decoyed pigeon shooting, and Perdiz hunting (when in season). |
The most popular dove hunting shotgun for this type of shooting is a 20 ga. Many guests choose to bring both autoloaders and double guns—alternating between the two, or preferring to use one for upland hunting and the other for dove. We have shotshells available for 12, 20 and 28 ga. Due to the extremely limited availability of .410 shotgun shells in Uruguay, we recommend leaving these guns at home. |
| Whether you have been dove hunting in Argentina before and wish to try something new, or if this will be your first South America dove hunting trip, give the friendly little nation of Uruguay a chance—it will not disappoint. You will love the food, the Uruguayan people, and the unique laid-back country lifestyle that sets Uruguay apart from the rest of the flock of great dove hunting destinations. |
