Travel Tips for Uruguay - Argentina Hunting Trips

When traveling to Argentina or Uruguay for a bird hunting trip or to tour the countries, use these tips regarding paying for food, drinks, goods in South America with a credit card.

• Notify your Bank - Credit Card Company - Make a quick call to the customer support of your bank or credit card to let them know of your plans. Fraud alerts are typical if you purchase something out of your usual area and it can be a hassle to clear it up overseas.



• Fees - Take note of the credit cards that charge transaction fees for purchases made overseas and use at ATMs. Some banks/credit cards are higher than others so do a little research, it can save you a lot of money.



• If asked if you want to have your card processed in US currececny, opt for the local currency. Merchants will likely add a currency conversion charge along with the fees the bank charges for foreign purchases.

It is usually the flight cost that kills South American hunting dreams: The hunt with all included can fit meager budgets, but pricey plane tickets do not make a South American hunting trip affordable.

Great News! Southbound fares have fallen in the past year and with a New Year upon us - should continue.

Check the airline's web pages (Los Gauchos recommends American Airlines One World) and see how low the flight can go - then get your bag packed and ready for some hunting in South America.

Cordoba is easy to access from the U.S. with flights going through Santiago, Chile and then connecting direct to Cordoba. Los Gauchos prefers the flight that has you arrive in Cordoba at 12:30 PM. You are in the field by 2 - hitting some high volume records by 5 PM.

The same volume of doves can be found right across the river in Uruguay. American Airlines offers a direct flight out of Miami to Montevideo where you can be in the field the day you arrive. Again, a 2 or 3 day trip is all it takes to get in some great wingshooting.

In case you did not know, Los Gauchos provides shotguns for all our bird hunting trips. No extra rental fees for using our top quality hunting equipment.

Our latest addition to the Uruguay hunting destinations is Estancia Mercedes. This lodge is set near the city of Mercedes (3 hours from Montevideo) and offers high volume dove hunting right on the property. During the South America summer months (December to February) you can enjoy a bonus of dorado fishing from the river that runs right in front of this luxury lodge.

More Good News about Booking with Los Gauchos Outfitters

Los Gauchos now requires $500 for a hunting trip. Many outfitters charge 50% - hey, we did too. But, we are consumers and we hunt and fish just like you. So, with family schedules, work schedules, flight fares changing day by day - Los Gauchos wants to make it easy to book a hunting trip. The deposit is non-refundable but if you cannot make your Uruguay duck hunting in May - let us work you in for August.

Peru - we DO NOT travel with guns as it is not allowed. All of these South American countries require a current passport and a love for good food, good wine, and fantastic bird hunting.
